Hawthorn Berries, also referred to as haws, have been used since the 19th century as a tonic. Hawthorn Berries are tiny fruits from the shrubs of several Crataegus species, which are native to Europe. Our hawthorn berries are tart but mildly sweet with a slight hint of apple, which adds a familiar flavor to many recipes.
Directions
To prepare as a tea, pour 8 oz. boiling water over 1 tsp. of herb. Cover and steep 3-5 minutes, strain and serve immediately.Suggested Uses
Hawthorn berries have traditionally been utilized in many different ways. Hawthorn berries can be infused in alcohol or vinegar, as well as cooked and added to honey, ketchup, and even delicious jams. They are sometimes used as an ingredient in tannic teas.
